The expectations of the modern world and the fast pace of today’s society can often cause us to deny, ignore and repress our emotions, burying them deeper within ourselves in an attempt to keep up. In doing so, it is no wonder that people often lose the connection with that deeper part of themselves and also lose touch with what makes them feel fulfilled. It is understandable that people often reach out for pharmaceutical treatments in order to cope. However, unfortunately while providing a quick relief, this is only a “band aid” solution which acts to temporarily mask the symptoms of a deeper underlying cause.

Our human emotions provide us with a vital and essential feedback system which enables us to moderate and regulate our internal homeostasis and maintain balance with the external world. Our feelings and emotions speak to us and tell us when something is wrong and needs to change. Often emotions and feelings that we have stored from the past come up for us to acknowledge and address at certain times. Ideally this occurs for us to resolve them and move forward with the new information and insights. However, if we do not take the time or if we continue to ignore and deny these signals and messages, we may begin to repress them and bury them deeper inside. Eventually the emotions begin to accumulate and so many emotions may become stored there, that the internal pressure builds until they begin to rise up and overflow, no longer willing to be held down. When this happens, people can experience emotional overwhelm, extreme distress, depression and sometimes a life crisis in their work or in their significant relationships. Everyone is different and some push these feelings deeper down and carry around these deeply distressing emotions for longer before they reach this point. Some are unaware that they have been carrying around these emotions and that they are in fact repressing them. They have done so for so long that it has become habit to do so. For some it is not until they experience some sort of life crisis which forces them to face these deep underlying feelings and heal what has needed to be healed for some time.

We use techniques which help you to identify the cause of the distressing emotions and which treat the cause rather than the symptoms. The longer you are on medication the longer you are not dealing with the true underlying cause, the key to where true healing and permanent change resides. Taking medication can often get you further stuck in a negative cycle where you become afraid to stop taking the medication and often become reliant upon it as a source of security. This only prevents you more from addressing the true cause of your underlying distressing emotions.

Conventional talking therapists who often see clients for months or perhaps even years, often try to talk their way to a solution. Talking can be great to vent emotions and have someone listen to and empathise with your problems. However, in the long run, usually the longer you talk about the problems, often the longer you remain stuck in them and continue to carry them around with you. Talking about and analysing your problems works at the superficial conscious level, and does not address the deeper underlying issue and so does not work to elicit long lasting change. To move forward, real changes in your perception and interpretation of the problems need to be made. The problem is only the tip of the iceberg where the thinking patterns and beliefs you have about yourself are the real underlying issue.

It is your subconscious mind which is responsible for how you perceive, feel and respond and so it is vital that we work with this part of your mind to ensure everlasting changes are made.

So, to address the cause, we will work with you to fully understand and identify the underlying psychological patterns or causes which are keeping you in a depressive pattern. We will first closely examine your current choices, decisions and behaviours and help you become more self-aware of your thoughts, emotions and behavioural patterns. We will then work with your subconscious mind to transform any self-defeating perceptions and disempowering beliefs and thought patterns that are not serving you and which are keeping you depressed. We will use a variety of cognitive and psychotherapeutic techniques such as hypnotherapy, EMDR therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy to help you reconnect to that deeper part of yourself and help get you back in touch with what makes you feel fulfilled in your life.
