Lack of Motivation

LACK OF MOTIVATION

Research suggests that around one-fifth of adults and half of all students procrastinate. Procrastination can be an action of postponing or delaying something, out of fear of failure, excessive perfectionism, a lack of focus or low energy levels. Procrastination can lead to diminished work or academic performance, poor physical health and increased worry, stress, and guilt. Sometimes the procrastination can be so debilitating that it can lead to anxiety problems and depression. Chronic procrastination is a self-defeating behavioural pattern which can prevent you from experiencing happiness, peace of mind and success in certain aspects of your life.

A common cause of procrastination is where people are overly critical of themselves and place too higher expectations on themselves when completing tasks. This can lead a person to feel more stressed during the task, and increase their likelihood of developing a procrastination habit around certain tasks. Often those who experienced an overly critical parent or had excessively high expectations placed on them as a child experience an additional pressure to perform and complete tasks as an adult. Those subconscious beliefs that they are not good enough, that things need to be done perfectly or that they need to be perfect were developed early as a child and have perhaps stayed with them until adulthood. Perfectionism and the fear of failure can often prevent people from attempting tasks, or trying new things. Procrastination can be comforting to those who fear failure and act as a self-protection mechanism to shield them against the possibility of real failure or pain they experienced as a child.

Whatever its cause, it does not need to dictate or rule your life. With the right knowledge and understanding of its causes, we can help you develop improved strategies to overcome this often frustrating habit and find your inner focus and motivation.

The major key to you achieving more and experiencing success is identifying and removing any underlying subconscious beliefs and thinking patterns that are holding you back from living the life you truly desire. Hypnosis is one powerful technique that we use to help transform negative disempowering thinking patterns into new, positive and long-lasting behavioural change, helping you to lead a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
